ImgWrench's Instagram post resizer turns any photo into a post at 1080 pixels wide, the largest width Instagram keeps: square, 3:4 portrait or 1.91:1 landscape, every shape inside the range Instagram's help gives for full-width photos.

How to resize photos for Instagram

  1. Drop your photos into the tool above. You can add several.
  2. Keep Square post ticked, or add Portrait post and Landscape post.
  3. Choose Cover or Crop to frame each shape.
  4. Download the files, or everything as a ZIP.

Instagram's photo rules

Instagram's help page says photos are shared at up to 1080 pixels wide. To keep that width, upload a photo at least 1080 pixels wide with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 3:4. The landscape output is 1080×566, which keeps it just inside 1.91:1.

Which shape to choose

  • Square (1080×1080). The classic grid shape.
  • Portrait (1080×1440). The tallest shape in Instagram's range.
  • Landscape (1080×566). Wide scenes and banners.

Why ImgWrench

  • Full 1080 width. Nothing for Instagram to shrink.
  • Every shape at once. Square, portrait and landscape from one photo.
  • Private by design. Your photos never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a photo for an Instagram post?

Drop your photo into the tool above. Square post is ticked; tick Portrait post or Landscape post for the other shapes. Choose Cover or Crop to pick the part you want, then download each file or a ZIP. Every output is 1080 pixels wide, the largest width Instagram keeps, so nothing is scaled down again on upload.

What is the best Instagram post size?

1080 pixels wide, with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 (landscape) and 3:4 (portrait), according to Instagram's help. Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide. The tool makes 1080×1080 square, 1080×1440 portrait (3:4) and 1080×566 landscape (1.91:1), each inside that range.

What if my photo's shape is outside Instagram's range?

Instagram's help only promises the full 1080-pixel width for photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4, so a 9:16 screenshot or a very wide panorama won't be shown as it is. Crop it yourself in the tool first, with Crop or Cover, and you decide exactly which part stays instead of leaving it to Instagram.

Why is my Instagram photo blurry?

Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide, so a photo narrower than that is shown enlarged, and one much wider is scaled down by Instagram. Upload exactly 1080 pixels wide, which is what every output here is, from a source that's at least that wide; the tool warns you when a source is smaller.

Can I make an Instagram Story from the same photo?

Yes, but a story is a different shape: 1080×1920, 9:16, much taller than any post. Use the Instagram Story resizer and choose Contain to keep the whole photo with space around it, or Cover to fill the screen and trim the sides.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser: ImgWrench resizes your photos on your own device, and they are never sent to a server or stored anywhere else. You can confirm this yourself by opening your browser's network tab while you use the tool and checking that no request carries your image data.
