ImgWrench is a free FFZ emote resizer: drop in an image or animated GIF and get a 128×128 FrankerFaceZ emote, or a 384×128 wide one. Those are the largest sizes FFZ keeps, so nothing is lost when FFZ makes its smaller versions. Need 7TV, BTTV or Twitch sizes too? Export them from the same upload.

How to make an FFZ emote

  1. Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above. You can add several at once.
  2. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop. Tick Wide emote for a 384×128 version.
  3. Check each file's size and preview.
  4. Download the emote, or everything as a ZIP, then submit it on frankerfacez.com.

Submitting to FrankerFaceZ

Connect with Twitch on frankerfacez.com, read the submission guidelines, then upload your image and enter the emote's details. FFZ asks that emote names aren't common words, so they don't trigger when people type normally; a prefix like a Twitch sub emote's works well. If the image belongs to someone else, say in the submission notes that you have permission.

Design tips

  • Design for the smallest size. FFZ makes a 32×32 version from your upload. Bold shapes and thick outlines survive; fine detail doesn't.
  • Keep wide emotes for text. Wide is best for a word or a reaction that doesn't fit a square.
  • Use a transparent background. It sits cleanly on light and dark chat.

Why ImgWrench

  • FFZ, 7TV, BTTV and Twitch at once. One upload, every extension's size.
  • The size FFZ keeps. 128×128 and 384×128, nothing upscaled.
  • Private by design. Your art never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an emote for FFZ?

Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above and choose Contain, Cover or Crop if it isn't square. ImgWrench exports a 128×128 emote, the largest size FFZ keeps, or 384×128 if you tick Wide emote. Download it, or everything as a ZIP, then submit it on frankerfacez.com.

What size should an FFZ emote be?

FrankerFaceZ resizes anything larger down to 32×32, 64×64 and 128×128, so 128×128 is the biggest size it keeps. ImgWrench exports exactly that, so nothing is upscaled. FFZ doesn't publish a file size limit, but ImgWrench shows each file's size so you can keep animated emotes small.

How do I make a wide FFZ emote?

Tick Wide emote and ImgWrench exports 384×128 from the same image. FFZ resizes wide images down to 96×32, 192×64 and 384×128, so that's the largest wide size it keeps. Wide emotes work best for a word or a reaction that doesn't fit a square. Use Crop to pick the part you want.

Which formats does FrankerFaceZ accept?

JPG, PNG or WebP for still emotes, and APNG, GIF or WebP for animated ones. ImgWrench exports PNG for still images, to keep transparency, and GIF for animations. A transparent background sits cleanly on light and dark chat, which is why PNG is the better pick than JPG for still emotes.

How long does FFZ emote approval take?

FrankerFaceZ says it can take up to a few days for emotes to be approved. Before you submit, read its guidelines: emote names shouldn't be common words, so they don't trigger when people type normally, and if the image belongs to someone else, say in the submission notes that you have permission.

Can I use the same emote on 7TV?

Yes. Tick 7TV emote and ImgWrench also exports a 512×512 copy from the same crop, checked against 7TV's 7MB and 1000-frame limits. 512×512 is our own pick, since 7TV resizes uploads itself. You can tick BTTV emote or Twitch emote too. The 7TV emote resizer explains how to upload to 7TV.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are resized on your own device and never sent to a server, and you can confirm this in your browser's network tab. No image data leaves the page at any point, from dropping a file in to downloading the result.
