ImgWrench is a free 7TV emote resizer: drop in an image or animated GIF and get a square emote that fits 7TV's limits of 1000×1000, 7MB and 1000 frames. Using more than one extension? Export BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ and Twitch sizes from the same upload.

How to make a 7TV emote

  1. Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above. You can add several at once.
  2. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop.
  3. Tick BTTV emote, FFZ emote or Twitch emote if you want those sizes too.
  4. Download the emote, or everything as a ZIP.

Uploading to 7TV

Log in to your 7TV account and press Upload at the top right of the site. Drop in your file, then fill in the details: a name, optional tags, whether it's an overlaying (zero-width) emote, and whether it's public or private. Public emotes go into a review queue before everyone can find them.

Design tips

  • Design for chat size. Emotes are shown far smaller than 512px in chat. Bold shapes and thick outlines read; fine detail doesn't.
  • Use a transparent background. It sits cleanly on light and dark chat, and 7TV recommends it for clean edges.
  • Keep GIFs reasonable. 7MB is generous, but other extensions aren't: BTTV wants under 1MB.

Why ImgWrench

  • 7TV, BTTV, FFZ and Twitch at once. One upload, every extension's size.
  • Checked against the limits. File size and frame count, flagged before you upload.
  • Private by design. Your art never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an emote for 7TV?

Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above and choose Contain, Cover or Crop if it isn't square. ImgWrench exports a 512×512 emote, checked against 7TV's 7MB and 1000-frame limits. Tick BTTV emote, FFZ emote or Twitch emote for those sizes too, then download one file or everything as a ZIP.

What size should a 7TV emote be?

7TV accepts images up to 1000×1000 and resizes them automatically, without naming one exact size. ImgWrench exports 512×512, our own pick, well inside that limit. Emotes are shown far smaller than that in chat, so bold shapes and thick outlines matter more than the exact upload size.

What is the file size limit for 7TV emotes?

7MB per emote, and animated emotes can have up to 1000 frames. ImgWrench checks both and can compress a file that's over. 7MB is generous, but other extensions aren't: BetterTTV wants under 1MB, so keep GIFs reasonable if you plan to upload the same emote there too.

How do I upload an emote to 7TV?

Log in to your 7TV account and press Upload at the top right of the site. Drop in your file, then add a name, optional tags, whether it's an overlaying (zero-width) emote, and whether it's public or private. 7TV accepts PNG, APNG, WEBP, WEBM and GIF; ImgWrench exports PNG and GIF.

Why isn't my 7TV emote showing up in search?

7TV puts public emotes in a review queue before everyone can find them. Until an emote is approved, it's unlisted and doesn't appear in public search, so other people can't find it there yet. This happens to every new public emote, so give the review some time before you search again.

Can I use the same emote on BTTV and FFZ?

Yes. Tick BTTV emote or FFZ emote and ImgWrench also exports 112×112 for BetterTTV and 128×128 for FrankerFaceZ from the same crop. The BTTV copy is checked against its 1MB limit. Tick Twitch emote for 112, 56 and 28px too. The BTTV emote resizer also makes wide BTTV emotes.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are resized on your own device and never sent to a server, and you can confirm this in your browser's network tab. No image data leaves the page at any point, from dropping a file in to downloading the result.
