ImgWrench is a free X (Twitter) header resizer: drop in an image and get a 1500×500 header, the size X recommends. The 60px strips at the top and bottom that X may crop on some screens are marked on the preview, so nothing important gets lost.

How to resize an X header

  1. Drop your image into the tool above.
  2. If it isn't 3:1, choose Cover to fill the frame or Crop to pick the area yourself.
  3. Keep text and faces out of the marked top and bottom strips.
  4. Download your header.

Uploading to X

On x.com or in the X app, open your profile and choose Edit profile. Select the header area, pick your image and adjust it, then click Apply and save your profile. Your image won't save until you click Apply.

Design tips

  • Stay out of the strips. Up to 60px at the top and bottom may be cropped.
  • Mind your profile photo. On your profile, your picture overlaps the lower left of the header; keep that corner simple.
  • Keep it wide and calm. At 3:1, a simple scene or a short line of text reads better than a busy collage.

Why ImgWrench

  • The size X recommends. 1500×500, cropped once, no guessing.
  • Crop lines, marked. See which edges may disappear before you upload.
  • Private by design. Your images never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Twitter / X header?

X recommends 1500×500 pixels for header images, a 3:1 ratio. ImgWrench exports exactly that size.

Why is my X header cut off?

X says that even at the recommended size, up to 60 pixels at the top and bottom may be cropped, depending on the screen and browser. ImgWrench marks those strips on the preview so you can keep important details out of them.

What file types can I use?

X supports JPEG, GIF and PNG. ImgWrench exports JPG or PNG.

My image isn't 3:1. What happens?

Choose Cover to fill the frame and trim the edges, Contain to fit the whole image with space around it, or Crop to pick the exact area yourself.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are never sent to a server, and you can confirm this in your browser's network tab.
