ImgWrench's Base64 to image converter works both ways. Paste Base64 or a data URI to see the image and save it as a file, or drop an image to get its Base64, a data URI, and ready-made HTML and CSS snippets. Everything runs locally, so it's safe to use with private data.

How to convert Base64 to an image

  1. Open the Base64 → Image tab and paste your text, with or without the data: prefix.
  2. The image appears with its format, size and dimensions.
  3. Click Download to save it with the right extension.

How to convert an image to Base64

  1. Open the Image → Base64 tab and drop an image.
  2. Copy the data URI, the bare Base64, the HTML <img> tag or the CSS background.
  3. Use Save .txt for very long values.

Tips

  • Keep inline images small. Base64 is about 33% bigger than the original file.
  • Trust the bytes. ImgWrench names the download from the image data, so a mislabelled data URI still saves correctly.
  • Strip quotes. If you copied the value from code, leave out the surrounding quotes.

Why ImgWrench

  • Both directions in one place. Decode and encode without switching tools.
  • Forgiving input. Line breaks, URL-safe Base64 and missing padding all work.
  • Private by design. Nothing you paste or drop leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn Base64 into an image?

Paste the Base64 text or the full data URI into the Base64 → Image tab. The image appears straight away, and you can download it with the right file extension.

Do I need the data:image/png;base64, part?

No. ImgWrench accepts bare Base64 too, and works out the image type from the data itself, so a missing or wrong MIME type doesn't matter.

Why is my Base64 invalid?

Usually because the text was cut off when it was copied, or extra characters such as quotes were included. Paste the whole value, without surrounding quotes.

When should I use a data URI?

For small images, like icons in a stylesheet or an email, inlining saves a separate request. For large images it's usually worse: Base64 adds about a third to the size and can't be cached on its own.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding and encoding both happen in your browser. Nothing you paste or drop is sent to a server.
