ImgWrench is a free YouTube banner resizer: drop in an image and get a 2560×1440 channel banner, the size YouTube recommends, plus a 2048×1152 copy at the minimum size, each checked against the 6MB limit. The safe area for text and logos is marked on the preview, so you can see what every device will show.

How to resize a YouTube banner

  1. Drop your image into the tool above.
  2. If it isn't 16:9, choose Cover to fill the frame or Crop to pick the area yourself.
  3. Check that your name, logo and text sit inside the marked safe area.
  4. Download your banner, or both sizes as a ZIP.

Uploading to YouTube

Sign in to YouTube Studio, choose Customization, then Profile from the left menu. Next to the banner image, click Change, pick your file, adjust the crop and click Done. Then click Publish.

Design tips

  • Keep the important part in the middle. Only the safe area shows on every device; the edges are for background.
  • Fill the whole frame. On TVs the full banner shows, so the outer area should still look intentional.
  • Skip borders and shadows. YouTube asks for none, and they'd be cropped unevenly anyway.

Why ImgWrench

  • The safe area, marked. See what phones, computers and TVs will all show before you upload.
  • Both sizes YouTube names. 2560×1440 recommended and 2048×1152 minimum.
  • Private by design. Your images never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a YouTube banner?

YouTube asks for at least 2048×1152 pixels in a 16:9 ratio, and recommends 2560×1440, especially for TV. The file must be 6MB or smaller. ImgWrench exports both sizes.

What is the safe area on a YouTube banner?

YouTube gives a 1235×338 pixel safe area for text and logos at the 2048×1152 size. The rest of the banner is cropped on some views and devices. ImgWrench marks the safe area, centred, on the 2560×1440 preview.

Why does my YouTube banner look cut off?

YouTube uses the same banner on computers, phones and TVs, but each shows a different part of it. Keep your channel name, logo and any text inside the safe area.

Should I add a border or shadow?

No. YouTube asks you not to add embellishments such as shadows, borders and frames.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are never sent to a server, and you can confirm this in your browser's network tab.
