ImgWrench is a free BTTV emote resizer: drop in an image or animated GIF and get a 112×112 BetterTTV emote, or a 336×112 wide one, checked against BTTV's 1MB limit and previewed at the 28px height it shows in chat. Need 7TV, FFZ or Twitch sizes too? Export them from the same upload.

How to make a BTTV emote

  1. Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above. You can add several at once.
  2. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop. Tick Wide emote for a 336×112 version.
  3. Check the chat preview in light and dark: BTTV asks that emotes are visible on both.
  4. Download the emote, or everything as a ZIP.

BTTV's emote rules

BetterTTV's Emote Guidelines ask for images between 100×100 and 336×112 pixels, in PNG, GIF or WEBP, and its upload form adds a limit of under 1MB. Emotes should be cleanly trimmed with no jagged edges, and any text should still be readable at 28px high. Copies of Twitch emotes or other BTTV emotes aren't allowed.

Design tips

  • Design for 28px. That's the height BTTV shows in chat. Bold shapes and thick outlines read; fine detail doesn't.
  • Check both themes. A dark outline that vanishes on dark mode is a common reason emotes look wrong.
  • Use wide emotes for text. 336×112 gives a word or a reaction room without shrinking it.

Why ImgWrench

  • BTTV, 7TV, FFZ and Twitch at once. One upload, every extension's size.
  • Real chat size. Preview your emote at BTTV's 28px height.
  • Private by design. Your art never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an emote for BTTV?

Drop your image or animated GIF into the tool above and choose Contain, Cover or Crop if it isn't square. Tick Wide emote for a 336×112 version. Check the chat preview in light and dark, since BTTV asks that emotes are visible on both, then download the 112×112 emote or everything as a ZIP.

What size should a BTTV emote be?

BetterTTV's upload form recommends 112×112 pixels, and its guidelines allow anything from 100×100 up to 336×112. ImgWrench exports 112×112, or 336×112 for a wide emote. Emotes should be cleanly trimmed with no jagged edges, and any text should still be readable at 28px high.

What is the file size limit for BTTV emotes?

Under 1MB, in PNG, GIF or WEBP. ImgWrench checks every file against 1MB and can compress one that's over, which matters most for animated GIFs. It exports PNG for still images and GIF for animations, so your emote keeps its transparent background or its motion and still fits the limit.

How do I make a wide BTTV emote?

Tick Wide emote and ImgWrench exports a 336×112 version, the widest BTTV allows, cropped from the same image. Use Crop to pick the part that fits the wide shape. Wide emotes are best for text: 336×112 gives a word or a reaction room without shrinking it, so it still reads in chat.

How big do BTTV emotes look in chat?

BetterTTV shows emotes 28px high in chat, much smaller than the 112×112 you upload. The preview above draws yours at that height in light and dark themes, so you can check it still reads. Bold shapes and thick outlines survive at 28px; fine detail doesn't, and dark outlines can vanish on dark mode.

Who can see my BTTV emotes?

BetterTTV says channel emotes work only in your own Twitch chat, and only for viewers who use BetterTTV, so viewers without it won't see them. To cover more of your chat, export the same emote for other extensions too: tick 7TV emote or FFZ emote here, or use the 7TV emote resizer.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are resized on your own device and never sent to a server, and you can confirm this in your browser's network tab. No image data leaves the page at any point, from dropping a file in to downloading the result.
