ImgWrench's WhatsApp sticker maker turns any image into a sticker that meets WhatsApp's published rules: exactly 512×512 pixels, WebP, 100KB or smaller, with a transparent background. It also makes the 96×96 tray icon for your pack.

How to make WhatsApp stickers

  1. Drop up to 20 images into the tool above.
  2. If they aren't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop.
  3. In the edit panel, add a white Outline if you'd like the classic sticker look.
  4. Tick Tray icon, then download everything as a ZIP.

WhatsApp's sticker rules

WhatsApp's sticker guide (the README in WhatsApp's official stickers repository) asks for stickers of exactly 512×512 pixels in WebP format, 100KB or smaller for static stickers and 500KB or smaller for animated ones, a 96×96 tray icon of at most 50KB, and between 3 and 30 stickers per pack. It recommends an 8px white stroke around each sticker.

Tips for stickers that look good in chat

  • Transparent background. Cut your subject out first, so only the sticker shows.
  • White outline. The Thin outline is 2% of the longest side, about 10px at 512×512, and helps on dark chats.
  • Fill the square. Keep padding small so the sticker isn't tiny in the chat.

Animated stickers

Animated WhatsApp stickers must be animated WebP, which browsers can't create yet. An animated GIF dropped in here becomes a still sticker of its first frame.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a WhatsApp sticker from an image?

Drop your image into the tool above; you can add up to 20 at once. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop, and add an outline in the edit panel if you like. Each sticker comes out as a 512×512 WebP under 100KB, and you can tick Tray icon for the 96×96 pack icon. Download the files one by one or as a ZIP.

What size is a WhatsApp sticker?

WhatsApp's sticker guide says stickers must be exactly 512×512 pixels in WebP format. Each static sticker must be 100KB or smaller, and each animated sticker 500KB or smaller. ImgWrench makes still stickers at exactly that size and shrinks any that are over 100KB, keeping the transparent background.

Can I make animated WhatsApp stickers here?

Not yet. Animated stickers have to be animated WebP files, which browsers can't create, so an animated GIF becomes a still sticker of its first frame. The tool says so when it happens. For an animated sticker on Discord instead, the GIF to Discord sticker tool keeps every frame.

What is the WhatsApp sticker tray icon?

It's the small image that stands for your sticker pack in WhatsApp's sticker picker. WhatsApp's guide asks for a still 96×96 pixel image of at most 50KB, and its sample app uses a PNG. Tick Tray icon in the tool to get one from the same image as your sticker, with its file size checked.

Should my WhatsApp sticker have a white outline?

WhatsApp recommends an 8px white stroke around each sticker, because stickers are shown on light, dark, coloured and patterned chat backgrounds. Open the edit panel and choose an Outline with white as the colour: Thin is about 10px on a 512×512 sticker, close to what WhatsApp suggests.

How many stickers can a WhatsApp sticker pack have?

WhatsApp's guide says each pack needs at least 3 stickers and at most 30. Drop several images into the tool together and every one comes out at the same 512×512 size and format, ready to download as a ZIP, so building a full pack only takes one batch.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser: ImgWrench resizes your images on your own device, and they are never sent to a server or stored anywhere else. You can confirm this yourself by opening your browser's network tab while you use the tool and checking that no request carries your image data.
