ImgWrench's Google Play icon maker turns your artwork into the 512×512, 32-bit PNG app icon the Play Console asks for, and checks it against the 1024KB limit. The same crop also gives you the 1024×1024 App Store icon.

How to make a Google Play icon

  1. Drop your artwork into the tool above.
  2. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop.
  3. Check the size badge: the icon must be 1024KB or smaller.
  4. Download the PNG, or everything as a ZIP, and upload it in your Play Console store listing.

Google Play's icon rules

The Play Console Help asks for a 32-bit PNG with alpha, 512 by 512 pixels, of at most 1024KB. Google's icon design specifications add that the icon is a full square in sRGB, and that Google Play applies the corner radius (30% of the icon size) and a drop shadow when it shows your icon.

Tips for a Play Store icon that stands out

  • Use the whole square. Don't round the corners yourself; Google Play does it.
  • No outer shadow. One is added for you. Lighting inside the artwork is fine.
  • Give logos room. Google suggests placing logos on its keyline grid rather than forcing them to the edges.

Why ImgWrench

  • Checked against the limit. Every icon shows its file size.
  • Both stores at once. Google Play and App Store icons from one crop.
  • Private by design. Your artwork never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a Google Play icon from an image?

Drop your artwork into the tool above. If it isn't square, choose Contain, Cover or Crop. The tool exports a 512×512 32-bit PNG and checks it against Google Play's 1024KB limit. Tick App Store icon for the 1024×1024 Apple version too, then download the files or a ZIP and upload the icon in Play Console under your store listing.

What size is the Google Play store icon?

512×512 pixels, as a 32-bit PNG with alpha and at most 1024KB, according to the Play Console Help. Google's icon design specifications add that it should be a full square in the sRGB colour space, and that Google Play applies the rounded corners and the drop shadow itself.

Should I round the corners or add a shadow to my Play Store icon?

No. Google Play applies the corner radius, equal to 30% of the icon's size, and adds a drop shadow around the icon after you upload it. Submit a full square without rounded edges or an outer shadow. Shadows and lighting inside the artwork itself are fine, and the tool keeps them as they are.

Why is my Google Play icon rejected as too big?

The icon must be at most 1024KB. A 512×512 PNG usually lands well under that, but photographic artwork with lots of noise can go over. The tool shows each file's size and flags it if it's over the limit. If it is, run it through the image compressor with a target size.

Can the Google Play icon have a transparent background?

The Play Console asks for a 32-bit PNG with alpha, so the file can carry transparency, and the tool keeps it. Google's design specifications still ask for a full square icon, though, so fill the background with a colour rather than leaving the corners empty around a cut-out logo.

Can I make the App Store icon from the same image?

Yes. Tick App Store icon and you get a 1024×1024 PNG from the same crop, the single size Apple's guidelines list for iPhone, iPad and Mac apps. Like Google Play, Apple rounds the corners itself. The App Store icon page has Apple's full rules.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser: ImgWrench resizes your artwork on your own device, and it is never sent to a server or stored anywhere else. You can confirm this yourself by opening your browser's network tab while you use the tool and checking that no request carries your image data.
